ANTH 105 - Introduction to World Archaeology

Survey of the most important and groundbreaking archaeological discoveries from around the world. Topics include: hominid finds critical to understanding human evolution in Africa and Eurasia; hunter-gatherer archaeology in Africa, Eurasia, and the Americas; the origins of agriculture across the globe, and the dawn of state level sociopolitical organization.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. describe the historical development of human societies worldwide.
2. explain how key archaeological discoveries and data inform our understanding of world prehistory and history.
3. evaluate the major hypotheses developed to explain the most important developments in the trajectory of human biological and cultural evolution.
4. explain how fundamental changes in human technologies, economies, social organization, and ideology laid the groundwork for the world we live in today.
