BIOL 323A - Human Anatomy and Physiology for Pre-Professionals I (3 units) Physiology of the, integumentary, skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems. Primarily for pre-professional students pursuing careers in medicine, dentistry, and other professional degree programs. This course may be used for credit towards the major in Biology.
Maximum units a student may earn: 3
Prerequisite(s): “C-” or better grade in BIOL 190A and BIOL 191A . Co-requisite(s): BIOL 323L .
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. describe the underlying basic physiological function of the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems of the body. 2. evaluate the significance of maintaining homeostasis to the survival of the whole organism. 3. evaluate the molecular and cellular basis of muscle contraction, factors affecting tension production, and metabolic physiology. 4. evaluate the molecular and cellular basis of neural activity. 5. develop critical thinking skills in order to be able to think like a physiologist, and solve physiologically-relevant problems. 6. analyze research experiments in physiology, disease physiology, or pharmacology, and evaluate if data/results support the conclusions of the study.
