BUS 712 - Human Resource Management

(3 units)
This doctoral seminar is aimed at reading, understanding, and conducting research in human resource management (HRM). Students should obtain a thorough understanding of the traditional topics of HRM (e.g., recruitment and selection, performance management, compensation) as well as the strategic perspective of HR (e.g., human capital, HR system, star performers). They should also develop the skills necessary to evaluate, criticize, and contribute to HRM literature.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. descrbe the current research in traditional areas of human resource management (HRM).
2. define the roles of HRM as a strategic element of an organization.
3. evaluate, criticize, and contribute to HRM literature.
4. produce a research proposal that can be accepted to a major academic conference and lead to a journal publication.
