AM 151 - Fingerspelling I

This course offers students an introduction to fingerspelling and numbers in American Sign Language.  Students will build practical expressive skills in fingerspelling words and signing numbers relating to everyday life situations and specialized topics. They will also develop critical receptive skills for understanding the fingerspelling and signing of others, in addition to gain an understanding of the role of fingerspelling in ASL and Deaf culture.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. demonstrate effective fingerspelling and signing skills when communicating names, titles, words, and numbers.
2. distinguish the meaning of signed numbers and fingerspelled words when communicating with others in ASL.
3. describe the role of fingerspelling in communication in Deaf culture and the appropriate uses of either fingerspelling or signs when communicating in ASL.
