DAN 446 - Screendance (3 units) This class investigates cinematic approaches to dance choreography and performance. Students learn the creative and technical skills needed to create short dance films including conceptualization, directing, recording, lighting, and editing. As a practice-led course, students gain hands-on experience in creating dance for camera. The coursework will include screendance viewings, history and theory readings, studio practice, independent projects, and collaborative work.
Maximum units a student may earn: 6
Prerequisite(s): Dance major or minor
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall - Even Years
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. identify the technical and creative elements of screendance as a form. 2. formulate ideas and bring them through the pre-production, production, and post-production phases of creation. 3. demonstrate an awareness of historical and/or contemporary trends in screendance. 4. communicate critical inquiry and articulate feedback of self and others in verbal discussion and in written reflections.
