SOC 426 - Community-Engaged Participatory Research Methods

(3 units) CO14
This course introduces students to the core components of community-based participatory methods and how those methods differ from non-participatory methods. Students are required to apply those methods by designing a study on a topic of interest approved by the instructor. (CRJ 426 and SOC 426 are cross-listed; credit may be earned in one of the two.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. differentiate between community-engaged participatory research methods and other social-science methods.
2. critique existing community-engaged participatory research methods studies.
3. design and present a proposal for a study that uses community-engaged participatory research methods.
