MINE 120 - Sustainable Resources Management

The course is designed for students from diverse academic backgrounds to give an insight about the natural resources and its impact in economy, society, and environment. Students will gain insights into how sustainable resources management plays a pivotal role in shaping national security, geopolitics, employment, economic growth, and environmental sustainability.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. describe how natural resources can contribute to sustainable development by integrating environmental, societal, economic and governance aspects. Students will analyze the causes, features, and practices needed to address the contemporary global crisis.
2. analyze the intricate linkage between the production of natural resources and the application of sustainable design metrics within the dynamic landscape of emerging technologies.
3. evaluate raw materials demand, supply, markets, and prices. In the process, it explores the nature of material substitution, recycling, and secondary production, along with by-product and co-product output.
4. gain the capacity to comprehensively grasp the complex and sometimes vexing connection between the abundance of raw materials and its impact on economic development, especially within the realm of geopolitics.
5. evaluate evidence and arguments used in information sources to summarize current thought on topics in natural resources, and produce well-supported written essays that thoroughly and respectfully consider alternative viewpoints.
