FIL 112 - First Year Filipino II (4 units) Introduction to the Filipino (Tagalog) language through the development of language skills and through structural analysis. Includes an introduction to Filipino culture.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. speak Filipino in various social situations or gatherings such as in a party, parlor/barber shop, post office, restaurants, and others, using common expressions and other kinds of social and polite formulas. 2. describe and compare things, places, events, and people, in written and spoken forms, using adjectives in different degrees (positive, comparative, superlative and intensified). 3. expand basic sentences by adding particles, negating statements, yes/no question, tag questions, responses, and interrogatives. 4. give detailed directions and instructions for common procedures using infinitive verbs and modal verbs. 5. perform role-plays on different situations utilizing verbs that give commands and directions, make requests, and/ or show daily activities. 6. comprehend simple written texts and identify the important details of the texts. 7. write simple correspondence, journal entries, current events, reflection paper, essays, and other work-related experiences with appropriate vocabulary and correct use of verbs, adjectives, and simple sentence structures.
