MUSA 451 - Private Composition (1-2 units) CO14 Weekly applied lessons in composition at the Junior/Senior grade levels. Lessons are delivered in an individual setting.
Maximum units a student may earn: 16
Prerequisite(s): MUS 302 and MUS 300 , or course instructor permission
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 1 Offered: Every Fall and Spring
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. understand, discuss, and creatively utilize a variety of compositional techniques, with an emphasis on the canon of Western art music. 2. deploy the above techniques through solo, chamber, vocal, large ensemble, and electronic mediums. 3. show the clear beginnings of a unique, contemporary compositional style, balancing creativity and craft. 4. engrave, edit, and distribute their compositions through proficient use of music notation software. 5. present a public recital, during their senior year, of original compositions.
