COM 212 - Introduction to Communication Research (3 units) Basic approaches to research in communication studies. Introduction to historical, analytical, critical, and empirical methods of investigation.

Prerequisite(s): 3 COM units; Completion of CO1 & CO3 (ENG 102 ; or equivalent); Communication Studies Major or Minor OR by permission of instructor.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. identify and distinguish among empirical, interpretive, and critical approaches to communication studies research. 2. conduct academic research by retrieving sources from library databases. 3. read and comprehend academic articles from the communication studies discipline. 4. write and revise academic essays using APA citation and formatting. 5. explain how communication research leads to theory development or theoretical applications.
