GEOG 412 - The Power of Maps: Fundamentals of Cartography (3 units) CO12 Critical examination of map reading and map design, including technical skills in mapmaking and the social, political, and ethical implications of maps as a communicative tool.

Recommended Preparation: GEOG 210 or instructor approval

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. identify fundamental design principles in mapmaking. 2. apply common methods used in the display and communication of geospatial data. 3. discuss mapping ethics and how political contexts influence mapmaking practice.
