GEOL 211 - Earth Materials and Geochemistry I (3 units) Systematics of crystallography, mineral identification and classification. Applications of geochemistry to minerals and rocks. Weekend field trips.
Prerequisite(s): GEOL 101 . Corequisite(s): CHEM 121A and CHEM 121L or CHEM 201 ; MATH 127 or higher.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. develop a working understanding of mineralogy, including crystal chemistry, as demonstrated by individual performance on written examinations. 2. identify minerals by examination and testing of hand samples, as demonstrated by individual performance in a practical laboratory setting. 3. develop their understanding of typical mineral occurrences as an aid in mineral identification, as demonstrated by individual performance on written examinations.
