MIL 201 - Leadership and Decision Making

(2 units)
Course focuses on leadership and decision making. The outcomes are demonstrated through Critical and Creative Thinking and the ability to apply Troop Leading Procedures (TLP) Innovative Solutions to Problems.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. identify different leadership theories from earlier studies and begin to associate multiple managerial.
2. demonstrate both transactional and transformational leadership by identifying both styles.
3. demonstrate their understanding of situational leadership by analyzing situations that enable the modification of leader behavior based on follower readiness.
4. demonstrate an appreciation of adaptive leadership and how applying the characteristics and factors of adaptive leadership will help them succeed in ROTC, CIET, and in their future career as an Army officer.
5. demonstrate an appreciation of adaptive leadership in history and how learning from the examples of these leaders will help them succeed in ROTC, CLC, and in their future career as an Army officer.
6. analyze a leader’s capabilities, style and strengths and development areas.
7. describe the Managerial Grid of leadership styles and research a military leader, analyze a leader using multiple leadership theories and/or elements, develop an informational briefing, and present an informational briefing.
8. demonstrate an understanding of the concepts of Critical Thinking to assess their own thought processes; understand the concepts of Inductive and Deductive Reasoning and Fallacies in Critical Thinking.
9. demonstrate an understanding of the concepts of Detecting Media Bias and Propaganda.
10. apply the Army problem solving process to an actual problem situation or issue.
11. describe the eight steps of the Troop Leading Procedures (TLP).
12. perform basic planning functions, create a basic plan that accounts for received guidance and develop a basic operations order.
13. demonstrate an understanding of the Just War Theory and how that theory reflects the Army Profession, Honorable Service to the United States, and the Moral Dimensions of Conflict in general.
14. demonstrate the concepts of ethical reasoning and how to apply it.
15. demonstrate the tactical aspects of the Army Values and Warrior Ethos.
