SPAN 422 - Special Topics in Translation (3 units) CO11 Selected issues and problems in the theory and practice of translation, e.g., theories of translation, literary translation, legal translation, techno-scientific translation.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. identify main issues and concerns in translating literary and non-literary texts. 2. categorize and analyze literary and cultural concepts pertinent to literary translation. 3. demonstrate their comprehension of the main principles of literaryand non-literary translation by translating texts from English into Spanish and from Spanish into English. 4. demonstrate their competence in literary translation by completing a translation project on a text of their choosing. 5. demonstrate competence in identifying some language variations and how these signal cultural issues to be considered in the translation process. 6. examine and evaluate cultural issues of the Spanish-speaking world and the US, and determine the best language options to fulfill the cultural expectations of the target readership.
