GRC 210 - Typography I (3 units) CO7 Introduction to graphic design. Readings on historical context of letter forms; studio-based projects on practical analysis, visual/conceptual interaction of type and image, and creative exploration of type as a formal element. Graphic Design majors or minors must earn at least a “C”; majors/minors may repeat GRC courses once.
Prerequisite(s): GRC 200 with a “C” or better. Corequisite(s): GRC 220 .
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Laboratory/Studio: 3 Offered: Every Fall
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. evaluate and apply various design thinking processes in response to visual communication problems that lead to well-grounded and creative conclusions. (CO7) 2. produce well-supported positions that thoroughly and respectfully consider alternative viewpoints in class discussion, critique, and written assignment. (CO3 and CO7) 3. examine typographic elements and language and apply to projects.(CO7) 4. research and articulate historical achievements, current major issues, processes, and directions in typographic design. (CO7) 5. demonstrate intermediate design software skills. (CO7)
