PSC 407K - Comparative Religion and Politics (3 units) CO10 Explore what happens when political life mixes with issues of ultimate concern. By exploring how states have used, abused, or controlled religion (and vice-versa) we will try to come to an understanding of how these two powerful forces shape our lives. (PSC 407K and RST 407K are cross-listed; credit may be earned in one of the two.)

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. classify definitions and theories of religion and apply those to interpret political events. 2. evaluate successful religious-based political movements or parties. 3. appraise and argue for political methods for managing religious-based identities in the context of diversity and equity. 4. understand and describe some of the likely consequences of religious intervention in politics and vice-versa.
