NURS 467 - Informatics, Technology, & Health Policy (3 units) CO9 Provides an overview of health care policy, policy development, and healthcare systems. Introduces concepts of nursing informatics and healthcare technology to improve quality and interdisciplinary communication.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. explain how informatics, patient care technology, clinical information systems, and communication devices improve health outcomes and support safe and quality nursing practice. 2. discuss the practical applications of technologies that will enhance communication with interdisciplinary teams. 3. describe ethical considerations related to the use and communication of data/information, to include: data security, confidentiality, and privacy of information to assure patient rights and safety. 4. identify how computer and information literacy helps ensure safe practice and improved health outcomes. 5. analyze regulatory requirements and system and public policy to determine their influence on appropriately and effectively using informatics and technology in practice.
