JOUR 475 - Global Media (3 units) CO11 The goal of the course is to help students develop understanding of media in our global society. The class will present basic media and communication elements that are foundational and commonly found in all or most international media formats. The presentation of formats and elements will be based using the US as our comparative model but with a global perspective.
Maximum units a student may earn: 3
Prerequisite(s): Junior or Senior standing.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. describe the major issues and cultural dimensions to illustrate the challenges of dealing with cultures and identities in global media. 2. describe the political and social issues and their global connections and development, and how they can collaborate across borders to report global stories. 3. develop multi-cultural global perspectives and report these perspectives in a multi-media world. 4. think critically about international elements and how they can be used to either reinforce social cohesion or create socio-political tensions. 5. utilize basic media and communication elements that are foundational and commonly found in all or most international media formats.
