MGT 301 - Principles of Management and Organizational Behavior

(3 units)
This course provides an overview of essential management concepts and practices. Students will explore key managerial functions, including planning, organizing, leading, and controlling, while examining how individual and group behavior impacts motivation, decision-making, communication, and performance. The course will equip students with the foundational skills to effectively manage people and resources in a variety of contemporary organizational settings.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. describe the Foundations and History of Management, and explain the evolution of management science, and the role of management in shaping global organizations.
2. apply ethical decision-making in organizational settings, balancing stakeholder interests and considering the broader societal impact to promote corporate social responsibility.
3. develop strategic thinking and business planning skills by critically analyzing business models, formulating long-term strategies, and applying effective decision-making processes to achieve organizational goals and drive success.
4. manage human resources and organizational change by applying theory and research to key HR functions, including placement, performance, and promotions, while using communication and motivational strategies to guide the organization through change.
5. analyze human behavior, motivation, and teamwork in organizations by identifying key personal and environmental factors influencing behavior and apply motivational strategies to enhance performance and promote collaborative decision-making.
6. apply situational leadership approaches, appropriately using power and influence, and communicating effectively across all levels.
