WLL 280 - Developing Intercultural Competence (3 unit) CO6 Introduction to concepts of culture and intercultural competence through a holistic approach by looking at cultures from around the globe and the application of those ideas to working in an intercultural setting.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. define the basic principles within the fields of intercultural competence and communication (cognitive frame-shifting and behavioral code-shifting). 2. analyze one’s own cultural values, beliefs, and self-understanding. 3. articulate effects these personal cultural values have on one’s perception of cross-cultural awareness. 4. demonstrate awareness of and respect for diversities in cultural perspectives, behavior and languages (perspectives, practices, products) through completion of the Intercultural Development Inventory. 5. demonstrate an in-depth and multidimensional knowledge of a particular culture.
