BCH 242 - Biochemistry of Poisons, Toxins & Venoms (3 units) CO9 The course will examine the biochemical foundations of poisons, toxins & venoms. It will explore the effects of these agents on cellular and system functions in the body, as well as their impact on science and society and their relevance to medicine and forensic science.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. describe the fundamental biochemical actions of poisons, toxins, and venoms in the body and explain their historical context in society. 2. explain how scientific advancements have created novel therapeutic medical applications of poisons, toxins, and venoms, including societal implications of their misuse. 3. explain how forensic laboratory technology and techniques are used to identify biomolecules on interest.
