Extended Studies helps improve people’s lives by providing high-quality professional development short courses and certificate programs in-person and online. It also provides corporate training customized to the needs of government entities and businesses at the organization’s site or at Redfield Campus.
Under the umbrella of Extended Studies are Academic Credit Options (ACO) and KIDS University.
Professional Development
Extended Studies provides professional development in a variety of disciplines, including Human Resources Management, Supervisory Management, Leadership, Gaming Management, Paralegal, Lean Six Sigma and Project Management.
The noncredit short courses and certificate programs address the latest trends, topics and issues in order to help professionals stay current in their fields, maintain and improve their skills, and enhance their career development. Instructors are drawn from University faculty and from practicing professionals in the community
Academic Credit Options
Academic Credit Options (ACO) is an ongoing program to reach university students as well as businesses and organizations throughout the state and beyond who might not otherwise be able to readily access university-level courses. ACO offers academic credit courses for travel programs, professional development and career advancement. Fall and spring courses as well as Summer Institutes are offered in a variety of formats including face-to-face instruction, hybrid and web-based. Kids University
Extending the university’s resources to all ages, Extended Studies provides enhancement and enrichment courses and camps for youths ages 7-14, including KIDS University during the summer, and University Break Camps. Both cover the STEAM disciplines of science, technology, engineering, arts and math for kids during fall, winter, and spring breaks. https://kidsu.unr.edu/
University Learning Centers
Redfield Campus
The Redfield Campus houses organizations providing academic programs, professional development courses and youth programs. These organizations are Extended Studies, Masters of Social Work, Physician Assistant Studies Program, Nevada Partnership for Training, Nursing, Manufacture Nevada and State 4H.
The MacLean Observatory houses two telescopes that work together to serve academic, research and community education needs.
