Students who start their career at Western Nevada College may complete a Bachelor of Nursing degree with a major in Nursing by following the course of study described below.
WNC Program to be completed - Associate of Applied Science, Nursing
- A candidate for a bachelor’s degree must earn a minimum of 120 units, at least 40 of which must be in courses numbered 300 or above. A minimum of 60 units must be taken at a 4-year institution with a minimum of 30 units (300-level or above) in residence at the University of Nevada, Reno.
- Students who graduate from a Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) community college with an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or an Associate of Business degree automatically fulfill lower-division general education requirements (CO1-8) at the University unless specific general education courses are required for completion of the student’s major program.

To ensure a successful transition to the University and graduation in four years, students must work with academic advisors at UNR and WNC throughout their career.
Students may earn an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science or Associate of Business degree after transferring to the University via reverse transfer . Talk with an academic advisor at WNC and/or UNR about this opportunity.
The Co-Admission program may provide the least costly route to a bachelors degree, including personalized academic advising from both institutions, certainty on how your specific courses will transfer and the exchange of transcripts between institutions at no additional cost to you.
Admission Requirements
During completion of the final semester of prerequisites, pre-nursing majors may apply for entrance to the nursing major by completing the formal application found on the website for OSN: www.unr.edu/nursing. Admission to the nursing major is based on the GPA for selected courses included on the application to the major. The GPA for those selected courses on the application must be a minimum of 3.0 and include no grade less than ‘C’ in any course.
Recommended Schedule
A minimum of 71.5 units are required to fulfill the prerequisite and major course requirements for the WNC AAS in Nursing.

- MATH 120 - College Algebra (3 units) Note: a higher-level Core Math course may substitute for MATH 120.

- CHEM 121A - General Chemistry I and Lab (4 units)
- BIOL 190 - Intro to Cell and Molecular Bio (3 units)
- BIOL 190L - Intro to Cell Bio Lab (1 unit)
