An 18-21 unit certificate in addiction treatment services is available through the Center for the Application of Substance Abuse Technologies (CASAT). All students are introduced to the field of addiction services via the overview courses of CAS 154 and CAS 255 . The Addiction Treatment Services certificate is available for students who already have a bachelor’s degree in a social science or those who do not wish to pursue a degree but seek addiction information for their chosen career. An optional 3 credits of internship/practicum coursework is available for those students intending to pursue the state certification as an alcohol and drug abuse counselor.
Formal acceptance into the certificate program is required in order for students to take coursework at the 300 or 400-level. Most of the courses for this certificate are available online, as well as face to face. Students are encouraged to take upper-division courses face-to-face whenever possible. To apply or to view information about this program online, visit: http://casat.org and select “Academic Programs”.
An additional application process is required for acceptance into the practicum, CAS 464 . Applications are due by April 1 for the fall semester and November 1 for the spring semester. All applications are available through the CASAT office in the Orvis Building, online at http://casat.org or by calling the department.
NOTE: Students who are enrolled in this program solely are not eligible for Federal Financial Aid.
