Public Health Program Development, Graduate Certificate

The Public Health Program Development, Graduate Certificate is one of three separate online asynchronous certificates offered through the Public Health Practice Graduate Certificate Program. Each certificate has a different public health focus area. Each certificate consists of 4 courses (10 credits) and can be completed in 1-3 semesters. The graduate certificates are available to people who already have a bachelor’s or master’s degree and wish to add public health competencies to their body of knowledge.
Students who wish to advance to the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree may apply certificate credits toward the MPH in Public Health Practice upon application and admission to the program.
Note: Students who are enrolled in this program solely are not eligible for Federal Financial Aid.

Program Objectives/Student Learning Outcomes
The goal of this online asynchronous certificate program is to prepare students to be effective public health professionals. Public health professionals work in a variety of organizations and agencies to contribute to the common aim of promoting and protecting health in human populations.
Student Learning Objectives for the Public Health Program Development, Graduate Certificate are as follows:
- Apply basic principles of emergency preparedness to solve problems under emergency conditions.
- Create goals, measurable objectives, related activities, and expected outcomes for a public health program.
- Design a population-based policy, program, project or intervention.
- Propose strategies to identify stakeholders and build coalitions and partnerships for influencing public health outcomes,
Admission Requirements
The certificate program serves post-baccalaurete students who are working in public health, or post-baccalaureate students who wish to add public health competencies to their body of knowledge. Students must have an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university to be accepted into the graduate certificate program.
Application is made directly to the Graduate School of the University of Nevada, Reno.

The Public Health Program Development, Graduate Certificate addresses competencies related to creating goals, objectives, and related activities in the development of public health programs, the principles of emergency preparedness, the assessment of population needs, assets and capacities that affect communities’ health, and the design of population-based policies, programs, projects, or interventions.
