The construction industry is growing and the demand for construction managers in the Western U.S., especially in Nevada, is growing along with it. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects significant employment growth for construction managers with an associated need for more highly-skilled personnel in this rapidly advancing field.
The purpose of the graduate certificate program is to provide a curriculum in construction management that complements graduate programs in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and is more applied- and knowledge-based than research -based. The required courses are offered by the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. They are taught by experienced faculty and technical staff. These classes may also be taken by technical and professional staff from engineering and construction related fields from both public and private industry.
Note: Students who are enrolled in this program solely are not eligible for Federal Financial Aid.

Program Objectives/Student Learning Outcomes
- Students will be able to describe the impact of different technical and engineered solutions or professional and ethical actions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts relative to construction management.
- Students will be able to implement engineering and management practices to advance the practice of the discipline.
- Students will be able to use advanced technical knowledge and practical readiness to improve management of construction works.
Admission Requirements
The admission requirements for the graduate certificate is an earned baccalaureate degree in engineering or a closely-related STEM field. Applicants with a baccalaureate degree from non-STEM fields will be considered if they have a background in project management or have related experience. The recommended minimum undergraduate GPA for admission is 2.75. A statement of purpose (up to 1-page) should be submitted for applicants from non-STEM fields to highlight their background and career goals.
I. Program Requirements
The graduate certificate in Construction Management uses an interdisciplinary approach to provide students essential knowledge and skillsets to meet the increasing demand for construction managers and more highly-skilled personnel in this rapidly advancing field. To complete the certificate, students must successfully complete 12 units with an average GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Students who are enrolled in or have completed the certificate program may choose to continue their graduate studies and apply to an MS program in Civil and Environmental Engineering.
