Nevada Global Learning Program, Master of Public Health M.P.H.


Nevada Global Learning offers two paths of entry for international students requiring additional English language skills before entering a graduate degree program. Both pathways provide students with English language coursework and support, while they simultaneously take credit-bearing courses toward their intended degree.

Upon completion of their Nevada Global Learning program, students may progress into the Public Health M.P.H. degree program.

I. Description


Nevada Global Learning provides graduate level English language learning for international students who need to improve their spoken and written English before entry into graduate degree programs. 

Nevada Global Learning offers two paths of entry for graduate international students, the Master’s Accelerator Program, and the Advanced Master’s Accelerator Program. Each pathway provides students with English language coursework and support, while they simultaneously take credit-bearing courses  toward their intended degree.

Master’s Accelerator Program (MAP)

The Master’s Accelerator is a two-semester, pathway program designed exclusively for international students seeking a more holistic academic and English-language support system. The curriculum includes advanced writing, public speaking and research instruction. 

Advanced Master’s Accelerator Program (AMAP)

The Advanced Master’s Accelerator is a one-semester, pathway program designed specifically for international students who are ready for immersive English-speaking classrooms.

III. Applicant Criteria


Students must apply through the Nevada Global Learning program and meet admission eligibility for the Master of Public Health M.P.H. program. 

Placement into the Nevada Global Learning Master’s Accelerator Program is made after a thorough review of academic history and credentials. The review takes into consideration grades received in specific courses completed during an undergraduate degree, supporting test scores (such as the GRE), overall CGPA, English proficiency scores and, in some cases, related work experience. 

IV. Program Requirements


Students entering the Graduate Nevada Global Learning program will be required to take an English Proficiency Test (iTEP) upon arrival at the University. This test is administered to confirm placement into the appropriate Accelerator (MAP/AMAP) program.

Student Learning Outcomes


MAP Program Learning Outcomes:

Students in this program learn and apply strategies to manage academic situations with clarity and confidence. Students who successfully complete the first term of this program will:

  • Express and support opinions by giving relevant explanations and examples
  • Develop an argument using reasons for or against a point of view
  • Participate actively in graduate-level academic discussions, making and responding to hypotheses
  • Identify stances and viewpoints in graduate-level academic articles and reports
  • Write essays that express a viewpoint based on understanding of outside sources
  • Develop academic skills to support successful graduate degree attainment

Students who successfully complete the second term of this program will:

  • Identify and paraphrase viewpoints of others while expressing a viewpoint on an academic topic
  • Develop systematic academic arguments that highlight significant points Initiate and build academic discussions by relating their ideas to the contributions of others
  • Synthesize information and arguments from different graduate-level academic sources
  • Write clear, connected discourse on academic topics in their graduate discipline
  • Develop leadership and career development skills to support success during and after degree program AMAP Program Learning Outcomes
  • Students in this program learn and apply strategies to appropriately and effectively manage academic situations that include conceptually difficult subjects and demanding academic interactions.

AMAP Program Learning Outcome

Students who successfully complete the program will:

  • Identify and paraphrase viewpoints of others while expressing a viewpoint on an academic topic
  • Develop systematic academic arguments that highlight significant points
  • Initiate and build academic discussions by relating their ideas to the contributions of others
  • Synthesize information and arguments from different graduate-level academic sources
  • Write clear, connected discourse on academic topics in their graduate discipline
  • Develop academic skills, leadership and career development skills to support success during and after degree program ​​​​​​​

Master’s Accelerator Program (MAP)


Master’s Accelerator Program (MAP)

Students must complete ESL 600, Graduate Writing and Communication (6 units) and ESL 601, Advanced Graduate Writing and Communication (3 units) with a grade of Satisfactory. If the student has not completed ESL 601 with a Satisfactory grade, they will need to repeat ESL 601, even if they have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 overall.

During the first semster the student will enroll in 6 units of ESL 600 and a minimum of 3 units relevant to their intended degree program. During the second semester, they will enroll in 3 units of ESL 601 and a minimum of 6 units relevant to their intended degree program.

If required, students may continue progressing through their academic sequence while repeating their English course and improving their language skills. Mandatory English tutoring may be required along with a targeted language-improvement study plan designed by the Nevada Global team. ESL 601 is repeatable up to 9 credits. 

Upon successful completion of the MAP with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, a student may matriculate into their degree-seeking graduate program.

Advanced Master’s Accelerator Program (AMAP)


Advanced Master’s Accelerator Program (AMAP)

Students must complete Advanced Graduate Writing and Communication (ESL 601) with a grade of Satisfactory. If the student has not completed ESL 601 with a Satisfactory grade, they will need to repeat ESL 601, even if they have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 overall.

During the first semster the student will enroll in 3 units of ESL 601, Advanced Graduate Writing and Communication, and a minimum of 6 units relevant to thier intended degree program. 

Students may continue progressing through their academic sequence while repeating their English course and improving their language skills. Mandatory English tutoring may be required along with a targeted language-improvement study plan designed by the Nevada Global team. 

Upon successful completion of the AMAP with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, a student may matriculate into their degree-seeking graduate program.
