Anthropology (Biological Anthropology), Minor

Students majoring in any field may minor in anthropology by completing at least 18 units in one of three areas of study: archaeology, biological anthropology, or cultural and linguistic anthropology.

Biological anthropology (also known as physical anthropology) is the study human evolution and variation. Coursework in the biological anthropology minor focuses on mechanisms of biological evolution, genetic inheritance, human adaptability, worldwide genetic and physical variation, primate anatomy and behavior, and paleoanthropology.

I. Program Requirements for Non-Majors (19 units)


Students majoring in another field may minor in Biological Anthropology by completing the requirements in this section.

  • Minor GPA | 2.0
  • Minor Upper-Division Units | 9
  • Minor Residency Requirement | 6 Upper-Division Units in the minor at UNR
  • Unit Limits: Per College of Liberal Arts policy, no more than 9 units counted toward any major may be reused to meet the requirements of this minor.

II. Program Requirements for Anthropology Majors (18 units)


Students majoring in Anthropology may minor in Biological Anthropology by completing the requirements in this section.

  • Minor GPA | 2.0
  • Minor Upper-Division Units | 9
  • Minor Residency Requirement | 6 Upper-Division Units in the minor at UNR
  • Unit Limits:
    • Per College of Liberal Arts policy, no more than 9 units counted toward any major may be reused to meet the requirements of this minor.
    • Additional Limit: Coursework used to satisfy Anthropology major requirements may not be reused to meet the requirements of this minor.

Note: Anthropology majors pursuing this minor should regularly consult with an academic advisor to ensure ANTH courses taken are optimally distributed between major and minor requirements on their advising report in MyNevada.
