Through the department’s skills-based curriculum, history students learn how to think and write like historians. History faculty teach students to think contextually, read historical documents, and become better researchers and writers.
Courses are offered in African, American, Asian, British and Irish, European, Latin American, and Russian history as well as specialized areas such as American studies, the history of medicine and science, global cultures, and the history of the American West.

I. Program Requirements (18 units)
Students majoring in another field may minor in general history by completing the following requirements: - Minor GPA | 2.0
- Minor Upper-Division Units | 9
- Minor Residency Requirement | 6 Upper-Division Units in the minor at UNR
- Unit Limits: Per College of Liberal Arts policy, no more than 9 units counted toward any major may be reused to meet the requirements of this minor.
A. Survey Courses (6 units)
Complete any two of the following survey courses: B. History Electives (12 units)
Complete at least 12 additional units of history coursework as electives. At least 9 of these units must be in upper-division. Any HIST course at the 100- through 400-levels not used to satisfy the survey requirement above may be counted as an elective. Refer to the course descriptions chapter of this catalog for a list of HIST courses. |
