For students with majors in another field, The School of Music offers two Music Minor tracks. Both tracks emphasize the development of an appreciation for different music genres, knowledge of music theory, exposure to the history of music, and applied experience in ensemble playing.

Admission Requirements
This music program is not intended for beginning musicians. Prospective music minors are required to audition for acceptance to this School of Music program. Audition requirements, procedures and deadlines are available on the School of Music website. Completing an audition does not guarantee acceptance to any music program. Students who do not complete an audition and/or whose audition does not meet the requirements set by School of Music faculty will not be permitted to pursue this minor. I. Program Requirements (20-21 units)
This minor is not open to students pursuing any major in music. Students with majors in another field may minor in music by completing the following: - Minor GPA| 2. 0
- Minor Upper-Division Units| 9
- Minor Residency Requirement| 6 Upper-Division Units in the minor at UNR
- Unit Limits: Per College of Liberal Arts policy, no more than 9 units counted toward any major may be reused to meet the requirements of this minor.
A. Core Courses (9 units)
B. Major Ensembles (3 units)
Complete 3 units in approved MUSE major ensemble coursework. C. Instrumental or Vocal Instruction (3 units)
Complete 3 units in MUSA applied lessons coursework. All coursework counted here must be on the same instrument or voice. D. Electives in music courses numbered 300 - 499 (5-6 units)
Complete at least 5 additional units in upper-division music courses as electives. These electives may include upper-division units earned in ensembles (MUSE) and/or instrumental/vocal instruction (MUSA). Any MUS, MUSA or MUSE course numbered 300-499 not counted toward the requirements above may be used in the elective requirement. Refer to the Course Descriptions chapter of this catalog for eligible courses. |
