Social Research Analytics, Graduate Certificate

The graduate certificate in Social Research Analytics is offered through the Department of Sociology. It complements graduate programs throughout the university, particulalry those in sociology, psychology, social psychology, social work, political science, gender, race & identity, criminal justice, and philosophy. The certificate is designed to provide students with advanced training in social science research methods and applied statistics that they may apply to their research as students and as working professionals.
NOTE: Students who are enrolled in this program solely are not eligible for Federal Financial Aid.

Program Learning Outcomes
Students who complete this certificate will be able to: - formulate and articulate a social science research question and/or hypothesis and identify the appropriate method(s) to answer or test it.
- design and execute a social science research project using a variety of methods of data collection and analysis.
- present the findings of their original social science research to constituencies such as academic scholars, employers, policy makers, or community stakeholders.

Students who have successfully completed an undergraduate degree and students who are currently pursuing a graduate degree at the University are eligible to apply for admission through the Graduate School. To apply, please complete the application for admission or current students can complete the certificate declaration form through the Graduate School. Attach a letter addressed to the Chair of the Department of Sociology indicating relevant background information, experience, and reason for interest in the program. Please include undergraduate transcripts or transcripts from your current graduate program. I. Program Requirements (12 units)
The Graduate Certificate in Social Research Analytics is a 12-unit program. The core course options are offered at the 700-level, and elective courses include a range of 600- and 700-level courses. To progress in the program a student must receive a grade of “B” or better in the Certificate courses and maintain an overall GPA of 3.0. A student must repeat coursework in which a grade of “B” or better was not achieved. Upon completion of the Certificate courses, students will need to apply for graduation through Admissions and Records. A notation will be added to the student’s transcript and a certificate will be mailed to the student. A. Core Course (3 units)
Students must take at least one 700-level core course to earn the graduate certificate in Social Research Analytics. The following list of 700-level courses may count towards the graduate certificate. B. Elective Courses (9 units)
Students must complete an additional 9 units that may be either 600- or 700-level courses from the following list. |
