Path to Independence is an inclusive postsecondary education program for students with a diagnosed intellectual or developmental disability. P2I is a standalone certificate program that focused on providing a college experience leading to employment in the community and can also lead to enrollment in a University undergraduate degree program.

Program Learning Outcomes
- Career Exploration: Students will identify aspects of various careers that appeal to them by participating in work rotations.
- Employment Readiness: Students will develop skills necessary for employment, by participating in a pre-employment class, three work based learning experiences, and an internship or job experience.
- Independent Living Skills: Students will acquire essential skills for independent living by taking classes in Financial Literacy, Nutrition and Culinary, Self-Advocacy, and Relationships and Sexuality.
- 4 Social and Communication skills: Students will enhance their social and communication skills to interact confidently and effectively with peers, instructors, employers, and community members.
- Academic prepardness: Students will enhance their ability to manage deadlines, complete course requirements, and interact with other college students.
- Academic content: Students will demonstrate their understanding of and engagement with academic content by maintaining a satisfactory grade point average in their credit coursework.
P2I Program Requirement
P2I students must satisfactorily complete all of the P2I program requirements (non-credit bearing). These include one semester of employment rotations and 4 independent living courses (Financial Literacy, Nutrition and Culinary, Self-Advocacy, and Relationships and Sexuality, one per semester). I. NCED Core Requirements (6 units)
Students must complete both NCED 301 and NCED 302 for the P2I program. II. Art and Humanities Electives (3-12 units)
P2I students must complete three graded credits from Arts & Humanities as part of the program. Additional courses available to undergraduate students may be counted at the discretion of the P2I Academic Coordinator. Additional Arts & Humanities credits may be taken for a grade or audited, at the discretion of each student and the P2I program. Courses listed are exemplars from previous P2I students. III. Science Electives (3-12 units)
P2I students must complete three graded credits from Science as part of the program. Additional courses available to undergraduate students may be counted at the discretion of the P2I Academic Coordinator. Additional Science credits may be taken for a grade or audited, at the discretion of each student and the P2I program. Courses listed are exemplars from previous P2I students. Total Units (21 units)
