FIL 212 - Second Year Filipino II

Introduction to the Filipino (Tagalog) language through the development of language skills and through structural analysis. Includes an introduction to Filipino culture.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. participate in conversations covering limited topic areas, such as family, childcare, beliefs, and values, holidays, courtship practices and some social issues.
2. demonstrate ability to use culturally appropriate language in situations that involve inviting people, asking for help, accepting and declining invitations or favors, expressing feelings and opinions for or against a situation or event.
3. read and write simple texts such as letters, news items, journal entries, short stories and informational texts.
4. understand simple written and oral texts such as advertisements and announcements, radio and TV talk shows and news broadcasts.
5. give detailed directions and instructions for common procedures.
6. describe and compare things, places, events, and people, in written and spoken forms.
7. retell a story from readings and/or multimedia materials (including movies).
