SPA 370 - Methods of Clinical Management (3 units) CO14 Therapy and clinical management of problems of disordered speech and language. Includes clinical equipment and materials for use in public school and medical-setting management programs.
Prerequisite(s): SPA 301 ; SPA 320 ; SPA 330 ; SPA 340 ; SPA 345 ; SPA 364 .
Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall and Spring Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to develop a research project based on semester-long clinical experience. 2. Students will be able to develop critical understanding of the therapeutic process and its impact on behavioral change in communication disorders. 3. The student will be able to demonstrate current knowledge of the principles and methods of prevention, assessment, and intervention for people with communication and swallowing disorders, including consideration of anatomical/physiological, psychological, developmental, and linguistic and cultural correlates. 4. The student will be able to demonstrate knowledge of standards of ethical conduct. 5. The student will be able to demonstrate knowledge of contemporary professional issues. 6. The student will be able to demonstrate knowledge about certifications, licensure, and other relevant professional credentials, as well as local, state, and national regulations and policies relevant to professional practice.
